I used to be a pastor. I served nearly a decade in student ministry. All three of my ministries ended with me being fired – twice for confronting the church’s “leadership.” What I noticed is that what we’re doing isn’t working. Thousands of churches die every year, and few that survive are growing.

The problem is Christian churches have developed such a strong sense of culture and methodology that nobody is allowed to question it! So now I’m trying to discern my place in the American church. It badly needs reformation. But how can that happen when it so stubbornly resists it?

Martin Luther inspires me. He was excommunicated, exiled, and threatened with death for his convictions. Yet he remained faithful to the gospel and led the Reformation. Our situation is similar. Our churches are also plagued with doctrinal deficiency and corrupt leadership. Could his convictions produce a reformation in our day as well?

I think so. If we return to the true gospel of Jesus Christ and submit all our ministry efforts to its authority, we just might see a modern day reformation.

A Voice Crying Out
My blog is where I express my convictions. This too is a reason I was fired – for refusing to be censored by the church’s “leadership.” But what can I do? Jesus compels me to write, so I write!

My convictions flow through two veins. First, I cry out for reformation. Second, I cry out for the persecuted. More than 100 million Christians are persecuted in over 70 countries today. As a volunteer for The Voice of the Martyrs, I speak on their behalf.

My hope is that the Christian churches are reformed as a result of my writing. I hope you experience a personal reformation, too.

  1. Hi Pastor Zack. My name is Erika Brooks and you her me and my son (Joey) at NCC. It took me a while to find this site and I would like to get more involved. I no longer feel connected to my church as I disagree with several things that have been said. Are you preaching anywhere? We really like the way you teach the word of God

    • Nice to hear from you! Unfortunately, I am not. My family moved back to the St Louis area. But you can subscribe to my blog by e-mail to automatically receive any new posts I publish.

Were the two of you ever baptized? I remember you were considering it before we left.
