Psalm 20:7 says, "Some trust in chariots and horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD." We look down on Israel and Judah for trusting in idols. But when we rely on marketing and remodeling our facilities to grow our churches, are we any better?
Baptism is an important part of conversion. But do we make it too important? We must be sure not to emphasize baptism more than the Bible does. Doing so makes it an idol and reduces it to a "divine dunking booth"!
Christians today uphold "free will" at any cost. They claim that denying free will reduces humans to puppets or robots. But God's free will is more important than ours. It's time to break the idol of free will.
God's people have always guarded themselves against idolatry - until today. Modern Christians sense no danger since we don't pray kneeling before statues. But our mental laziness has allowed idols to infiltrate our faith and worship. It's time to bring back iconoclasm.
